By now, we all understand the importance of incorporating essential oils into our skincare routine, to ensure that our skin is brighter and healthy looking, with a more even skin tone and glowing complexion. But making soap and other products is not just about the essential oils used, it is just as important to use the right oils and butters.
We started making soap with all kinds of difference plant-based oils and after reading an article about hemp seed oil decided to give it a try. We immediately found that these soaps felt sooo different than any other soaps, as they were creamier and felt like washing with a lotion. So let's have a look at the many reasons we decided to include this oil in ALL our products.
What is hemp seed oil/hemp oil?
Hemp seed oil comes from pressing the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. Hemp seed oil is a dark green colour until it’s refined, when it then becomes clear and colourless. It has recently become very popular in skincare products, due to its high content of essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
What are the benefits of hemp oil for skin?
1) Moisturisation
One of the biggest and most well-known benefits of hemp oil is its moisturising properties. It’s an emollient, which helps to maintain skin’s elasticity and leaves it feeling beautifully soft, smooth and supple. Hemp oil is high in Omega acids 3, 6 and 9, which help to repair the skin’s natural barrier and form a “seal” over its surface, locking in moisture and allowing it to stay hydrated for longer.
2) Balances oily skin
Sometimes when your skin gets too dry, it begins to overproduce oil to try and combat the dryness, which can lead to breakouts and irritation on the skin’s surface. Hemp oil is a natural moisturiser that doesn’t clog pores, making it a perfect hydrating ingredient for those with oily skin.
3) Improves the appearance of skin tone and texture
Hemp oil contains vitamins A, C and E which are key ingredients in skincare to combat environmental stressors and rejuvenate skin for that fresh, youthful glow. These vitamins also have anti-ageing properties, which contribute to a radiant-looking complexion.
